The College Interview

When I was applying for college, nothing intimidated me more than the college interview. As it turns out, the interview was one of the most helpful factors in my college search. I want to share some information that I found helpful when preparing for the college interview.

As a part of the college admission process, students may be asked to schedule an interview with an admissions counselor. Don’t get nervous, the college interview is your opportunity to put a face and personality to your application. Chances are that the admissions counselor that you interview with will be the one that is reading your application. A good interview will help your admission chances.

Before the interview, make sure you research the school and review the admissions materials. You should be able to talk intelligently about the school and program you are interested in. Make sure you bring the following things:
• List of questions
• Notebook and pen
• College resume
• Copy of high school transcript
• Standardized test scores

Get directions and arrive early. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the campus. During the interview be yourself. The college interview isn’t an interrogation or a test, it is a conversation. The interview is a great opportunity for the college to learn about you as well as for you to learn about the college. After the interview, remember to send a hand written thank you note, colleges take note of this.

What are your thoughts on the college interview process?

Put your best foot forward,
Tom

Interview in college is the one that makes my palms so sweat. I think it is that first "formal" interview I did in my life and it's life what if i am not going to pass. But once you face the interviewer everything will be fine.

I was really scared about college interviews. But they were really okay. The interviewers asked me some questions about myself and what I liked to do and then I felt more comfortable. I think they really wanted to get to know me better. Make sure you have some questions ready though, because they always ask you if you have any questions. It is hard to think of something on the spot, so do some research. Don't ask something that you could have read online because then it will look like you don't know anything about the college.
